A Quick View On The Effects Of Drugs

The effects of drugs in the human body vary according to their classification. They range from dizziness, fainting, if the person has a mental disability, some drugs can cause schizophrenia and on high doses, drugs can even cause death. These effects are not often apparent and on certain occasions do not occur once the drug in taken. Most drugs are so similar to chemicals in the body such as endorphins that the body does not perceive them as harmful. The body gets used to them developing a resistance to them and a dependency.

Once the body develops a resistance, a higher dose of the drug is needed in order to appease the body. Then it comes to the point where the person cannot “properly” function without taking the drug. One of the most popular drugs is alcohol. Many people might not seem alcohol as a drug, because it is not illegal, it is sold and even advertised openly.

Alcohol is a depressant, which means it makes people feel sad and it has instances of impairing people’s judgment and motor skills. Kids experiment with alcohol as early as middle school. It is widely consumed orally, and many people even develop drinking games.

The effects of alcohol are several and severe, not only affecting the person who consumes it, but in other cases the people around the consumer. For example, people who drink and drive are a major cause of death on the road. People who have been drinking most of their lives can develop liver failure, respiratory depression and on some extreme cases can even die.

The effect of drugs such as alcohol are severe when they are looked at as a whole. They bring about severe trauma to the body. Another harmful drug that also seems “harmless” is marijuana or weed. Many people think marijuana is not harmful, because it grows out of the ground. However, marijuana has many harmful chemicals which affect the human body in different ways.

Marijuana can be either eaten or smoked. Kids as young as 14 and even younger get hooked on this drug. The effects of weed are many. A person who consumes weed has bloodshot eyes while under the influence of this drug. Comprehension becomes impaired and the ability to make critical decisions decreases. People become sluggish. Long term effects might be intense anxiety attacks, paranoia, loss of short term memory and poor problem solving.
